1. Data resource: Aquatic Heteroptera Dataset

Records of British Water Bugs from 1863, but mainly post 1980.

  2. Data resource: Aquatic macrophytes of conservation concern

This is a draft list of aquatic macrophytes derived from SEPA's database that are either NR/NS,VU,EN or CR. Designations follow the JNCC taxon database and have not been checked against more recent evaluations.

  3. Data resource: ARC Species Data - Beautiful Burial Grounds

Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) holds amphibian and reptile species records going back to the 1970s. This dataset makes some of these data available at a higher resolution than otherwise shared, for use in the Caring For God's Acre Beautiful Burial Gounds Project. Sensitive species are excluded.

  4. Data resource: ARC Species Database

Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) holds amphibian and reptile species records going back to the 1970s. A large proportion of this data is collected by volunteers, and ARC greatly values their support. The dataset currently uploaded to the NBN Atlas contains occurrence (presence) data on widespread and range restricted species, as well as non-natives. Data resolution matches that defined in the ARC Data Sharing Policy (https://www.arc-trust.org/policies). Higher resolution data can be requested from ARC. This upload of the ARC Species database contains the following datasets: 1) ARC rare reptile monitoring data c.1990-2022 2) Natterjack toad monitoring data from 1970 onwards 3) Rare/exotic species records from the British Herpetological Society (BHS) database (up to c.1984-1998). 4) Various third-party datasets 5) Various ad-hoc records 6) Batched Living Record amphibian and reptile records 7) Monitoring data collected under the National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme (NARRS) / National Amphibian and Reptile Monitoring Programme from 2007 onwards (including the National Reptile Survey and National Amphibian Survey)

  5. Data resource: Argyll Biological Records Dataset

ABReC operates the biological records centre for VC98 Main Argyll and the Isle of Mull, with support from NatureScot. We also accept records from other parts of Argyll that lack records centres of their own. This dataset contains all the records we hold, apart from any acquired since our last NBNA upload. Records from all taxonomic groups are accepted. Taxonomic coverage is uneven but we make constant efforts to redress the balance by targeting under-recorded groups. Website http://www.abrec.org.uk Facebook "Argyll Biological Records Centre". ABReC can conduct data searches for ecological consultants.

  6. Data resource: ARPW schemes in Great Britain for the period 2014-2018

All species and habitats listed in reports included in the dataset.

  8. Data resource: Assessment of lamprey abundance and distribution in the River Tweed SAC/SSSI, 2004

Ammocoete larvae of the two Lampetra species (L. fluviatilis and L. planeri) were widespread throughout the survey area, though larvae of the sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) were found only in the most downstream section of the main river Tweed. However, several age classes of P. marinus larvae were found, indicating regular breeding in this section of the river in recent years. Variable numbers of age classes of Lampetra larvae were also apparent. Post-larval macropthalmia stages of both Lampetra species were also found. Generally, those of L. fluviatilis were in the larger channels of the main Tweed and major tributaries, while those of L. planeri were in the smaller channels as well. Historic and recent records of adults confirm the wide spread of the Lampetra species, but suggest a more extensive range for P. marinus breeding than shown by this survey. High abundances of Lampetra juveniles were found at relatively few survey locations. This indicates that most bankside habitat in the Tweed catchment is of little importance for lamprey, but that the areas of good habitat where high levels of abundance do occur could be of critical importance for local populations.

  9. Data resource: Assessment of the status of the great crested newt Triturus cristatus within the Scottish Natural Heritage East Highland Area, 2002

Fourteen ponds within the Scottish Natural Heritage East Highland Area were surveyed, to assess the suitability of surrounding habitats and give recommendations for management where this is thought to be required. All amphibians present were recorded. MAIN FINDINGS · Great crested newts T. cristatus were recorded at six out of seven ponds where the species was recorded during the previous, 1996 survey; · No great crested newts were recorded at four ponds with old records for the species; · No great crested newts were recorded at three ponds recently said to support the species; · The total population of great crested newt in the ponds surveyed was estimated at between 267 and 890 adults; · Ponds occupied by great crested newt were found to support a more diverse amphibian assemblage than unoccupied ponds.

  10. Data resource: Assessment of the status of the great crested newt Triturus cristatus within the Scottish Natural Heritage East Highland Area, 2004

Eight ponds/pond clusters within the Scottish Natural Heritage East Highland Area were surveyed, to assess the suitability of surrounding habitats and give recommendations for management where this is thought to be required. All amphibians present were recorded. MAIN FINDINGS 1. Great crested newts T. cristatus were recorded at only one of the eight ponds/pond clusters surveyed, 2. The total population of great crested newt T. cristatus in the ponds surveyed was estimated at between 3 and 10 adults, based on standard multipliers for night torch surveying. Two of the ponds had previously been surveyed during the 2002 survey carried out by HEL, but no great crested newts were recorded at either pond during either survey.

  18. Data resource: Atomariine Beetle (Coleoptera) records for Britain and Ireland to 1992

Atomariinae beetle data from the UK and Ireland. The data was collected by volunteers as part of the Atomariinae and Ptiliidae Recording Scheme. Recording cards were sent to BRC by the scheme organiser where they were converted to electronic format. The data is from the 1993 Atlas summarising information on the occurrence in Britain and Ireland of Atomariinae beetles in the genera Caenoscelis, Atomaria, Ootypus and Ephistemus.

This dataset contains species records for the 400+ species of Auchenorrhyncha covered by the recording scheme, and that have been verified by the recording scheme. Records are from datasets made available via the iRecord verification process, which may originate from direct submission to iRecord, or via other datasets that have been made available for verification.
